Crashing, Lags & Resources
6 min read
- Relationships: finish-to-start (the default), start-to-start, finish-to-finish, start-to-finish, each with an optional lag.
- Resource leveling shifts non-critical activities within their float to smooth daily demand without extending the project.
Worked: three days to save, then one more
Path 1 is A (5) → B (8) → C (7) = 20 days; path 2 is A (5) → D (13) = 18 days. Crash limits and slopes: A 1 day at $1,500; B 3 days at $800; C 2 days at $500; D 2 days at $400. The target is 17 days.
- Crash C by 2 days ($1,000). Path 1 drops to 18 and now ties path 2.
- The next day must come off both paths: A alone costs $1,500, B plus D costs $800 + $400 = $1,200. Take B and D.
- Total: $2,200 to finish in 17 days.
