Worked: checking a lift of fill
A sand cone test on the new lift gives a wet unit weight of 128 pcf at 12% water content. γ_d = 128/1.12 = 114.3 pcf. The laboratory maximum is 119.0 pcf, so relative compaction is 114.3/119.0 = 96%, which passes a 95% specification. As a sanity check, γ_zav at 12% with G_s = 2.70 is 127.3 pcf — the field point sits below it, as it must.
