Choosing a Method
5 min read
The hardest part of a dynamics question is usually choosing the method. Picking the right one turns a long problem into a short one.
| Method | Use when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Newton's second law | You need acceleration explicitly | Every force on the free-body diagram |
| Work-energy | Speeds at two positions, no time asked | Friction losses are path-dependent |
| Impulse-momentum | Time or impact is involved | Momentum is a vector — keep components separate |
