Critical Path

The longest chain of dependent activities through a schedule, which sets the project duration.


Activities on the critical path have zero total float: any delay to one of them delays completion. Total float is found from the forward and backward passes as late start minus early start.

Crashing a project means shortening critical activities, cheapest first per day saved — and re-checking after each step, because a second path can become critical.
